Reading Leaders

As part of our reading strategy we have created Reading Leaders, these are students who are comfortable readers themselves. They will support other students who may be struggling with their reading by reading to them, with them or listening to them read.

Why have they been selected?

Reading Leaders have been selected based on a number of reasons:

  • Students being interested in helping others or becoming a Reading Leader
  • Staff recommending students to become Reading Leaders
  • Reading age data that shows a student would be able to help others

Who will I read to and when?

Reading Leaders will read mainly to new Year 7 students or younger students who find reading difficult. They will also have opportunities to read with primary aged students from a local primary school, Keresley Grange Primary Academy. Students who are Reading Leaders can opt out of the visits if they would prefer to just read to Corley students and to stay at Corley.

What are the benefits of students being a Reading Leader?

  • By leading, your own reading will improve
  • Leadership skills, team work and empathy will improve for you
  • You are contributing something really valuable to the community
  • It is a great skill to put on your CV or mention at future interviews

Mrs Foxon will arrange some meetings so that all Reading Leaders can have some training before they start and also check in to see how things are going or share information.
