UNICEF - Rights Respecting Schools
“Pupils learn about initiatives such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. This develops their knowledge of rights, responsibilities, equality and fairness, and results in respectful and tolerant attitudes.” Ofsted January 2026

Please take a moment to watch our student's video explaining children's rights under The Convention of the Rights of The Child
At Corley Academy we are proud to be part of the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA). This means that children’s rights are at the heart of everything we do.
We are delighted to have achieved our Bronze Award: Rights Committed status. This recognises our commitment to placing children’s rights at the centre of our school community and our journey as a Rights Respecting School.
At Corley Academy we aim to create a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment where every child feels respected and valued. We nurture each child’s talents and support them to learn, grow and thrive.
By working with the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award, we are embedding these values into everyday school life. This helps our children to develop respect for themselves and others, understand their rights and become responsible, active members of society. We want all our students to have the best possible chance to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.
We are now working towards our Silver Award: Rights Aware. As part of this, we are continuing to strengthen children’s understanding of their rights, ensure these are embedded in all areas of school life and empower students to use their voice to make a positive difference in both school and beyond.
As part of our journey, we are actively promoting children’s rights across the school in meaningful ways:
- Our Action Against Bullying Committee leads awareness work, including students delivering assemblies during Anti-Bullying Week.
- Our Girls Research Team are exploring students’ sense of belonging across the school. They are working with other schools and outside agencies and will present their findings at a conference in September.
- The School Council raises money for school projects and supports the local community by creating food parcels for families in need.
- Our Rights Respecting Steering Committee helps to raise awareness of children’s rights across the school and support our RRSA journey.
- Students have worked together to create our School Charter, (see below)helping to shape our values and expectations.
- We raise money throughout the year through non-uniform days, coffee mornings and Fairs, supporting children both in the UK and overseas.
